About me

Hello, welcome to my website! My name is Robin Chong; I’m 24 years old and live in the Netherlands. Ever since I can remember, I’ve always been interested in understanding how things work and creating things. I am largely self-taught across a variety of technical and creative fields, including Video Editing, Web Design, Server Management, 3D Art and Music Production.

My curiosity about nature led me to study Astronomy at Leiden University to understand the universe and our place in it. Today, that interest extends to the mind and behavior. I am currently in the midst of rehabilitating my fear-aggressive rescue dog, Rocky, by applying natural communication. On the side, I am learning about Buddhism and Psychology to better understand the inner workings of the human mind.

At the moment, I am focused on “going back to nature” and seeking ways to apply my diverse technical skills to projects that are meaningful, peaceful, and grounded in truth.

Creative Endeavors

14 Years of Multi-Disciplinary Creation

For the past 14 years, my life has been a constant journey of learning creative tools and finding ways to master them. Over time, my toolset has expanded greatly, allowing me to take concepts learned in one area and apply them to enhance other projects. In the section below, there is an overview of my most influential creative endeavors.

Robin Chong

Robin Chong is my personal YouTube channel dedicated to the “Documentation of Learning” and professional growth. The content focuses on high-quality educational essays, deep-dives into complex topics, and musical endeavors. By prioritizing content that is genuinely educational and inspirational, I use this platform as a cinematic reflection of my technical skills and my journey toward a meaningful, truth-grounded life.

IQprof

IQprof is my 11-year-old YouTube gaming channel about the game Minecraft. The content focuses primarily on telling nice stories, showcasing the creative process from start to finish, teaching building techniques and showcasing my Minecraft art. My goal is to deliver authentic, engaging videos that inspire viewers to undertake their own creative endeavors.

Davinci Resolve

DaVinci Resolve has been my primary editor for the past five years, chosen for its professional-grade cinematic capabilities and integrated Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). I utilize its full suite to color grade footage shot on my Sony ZV-E10 and to edit high-impact videos for both my personal and gaming channels. Using Fairlight, I professionally mix and master the audio to ensure vocals are crisp, clear, and balanced.

Music Production & Composition

I compose and produce original music using Reaper to ensure full creative control over the emotional impact of my projects. By applying Music Theory and my experience with Piano and Guitar, I build melodies that are either tailored to match the specific “vibe” of a video narrative or released as standalone tracks. This integrated approach allows me to craft custom scores that perfectly align with the visual storytelling of my work.

Mixing, Mastering & Enhancement

My experience in music production has given me a deep understanding of mixing and mastering, allowing me to precisely control the dynamics and loudness of a track. I am proficient in EQ, compression, noise reduction, and limiting, which I use to ensure professional-grade clarity. Beyond original compositions, I often remix and enhance royalty-free tracks to better suit my specific project needs, resulting in a polished and balanced final mix.

Audio Synthesis & Sound Design

Driven by a fundamental curiosity about how things work, I also explore Audio Synthesis. I use synthesizers to create custom sounds and textures from scratch rather than relying on presets. This “bottom-up” approach to sound design allows me to experiment with unique sonic combinations, crafting original atmospheres and textures.

Visual Branding & Compositing

For eight years, I have used Gimp as my primary tool for image manipulation, complex compositing, and visual branding. My approach focuses on color management and composition to create high-impact assets that accurately represent a project’s core message. By balancing aesthetic appeal with strategic branding, I design visuals that not only capture attention but also spark genuine curiosity in the viewer to explore the underlying topic.

Data Visualization & Information Design

Throughout my Astronomy studies, I specialized in translating complex, “hard” data into clear and digestible visual narratives. I utilized Matplotlib and Bokeh to create precise data plots and interactive graphs. To bridge the gap between academic research and public understanding, I used Inkscape to design high-impact scientific posters, condensing intricate concepts into visually intuitive formats for diverse audiences.

3D Modeling & Art

For over a decade, I have used Blender for 3D modeling and animation across a wide range of disciplines. My experience spans from building environments and assets from scratch for game development to designing functional 3D prototypes for physical objects. Beyond static models, I create animations for entertainment and professional branding, including custom intro videos. I love creating 3D creations and embedding them into projects to enhance them.

Scientific Foundation & Analytical Rigor

My creative work is backed by a disciplined, scientific background. Holding a BSc in Astronomy from Leiden University and having followed a minor in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, I have spent years training in mathematical analysis, theoretical physics, and computational logic. This academic path has shaped how I approach every project: with a focus on accuracy, structured problem-solving, and a data-driven mindset.

Systems & Infrastructure

The Home Lab: Self-Taught DevOps

Beyond creative and academic work, I maintain a dedicated home lab server to host a variety of applications, websites and game servers. Everything is self-taught through independent research and hands-on experimentation, focusing on building a reliable, secure, and automated environment for both personal tools and community projects.

Infrastructure

Proxmox & Ubuntu Environments

I manage my server using Proxmox for virtualization, running various Virtual Machines and LXC containers to host my ecosystem. This setup allows me to practice professional-grade server management, networking, and resource allocation, while maintaining isolation between applications for security.

Orchestration

Pterodactyl Panel Management

I utilize the Pterodactyl panel to manage multiple Minecraft servers for my personal Minecraft community called the IQcommunity, where we create beautiful looking builds / art. Managing the servers involve configuring game environments, plugins & mods, managing databases, networking, and ensuring high uptime for my friends.

Self-Hosting

Personal Tools & Network Security

I host a variety of self-contained services including Immich for photo management, qBittorrent for data handling, and network-wide Ad-blocking. This requires constant maintenance of Nginx proxies, security protocols, and general networking.

Hobbies and Interests

Personal Interests & Daily Practice

These are projects and practices that currently occupy most of my time on a day-to-day basis. From rehabilitating my fear-aggressive dog and learning about dog behavior and Buddhism to learning languages and hosting gaming events.

Dog Rehabilitation

Over the past five years, I have dedicated significant time to raising and rehabilitating my fear-aggressive rescue dog, Rocky. After years of trying traditional training techniques that failed to address the root of his behavior, I discovered the methodology of Brandon Fouche. Rather than conventional training, Brandon focuses on communicating through the lens of nature. Under his guidance, I was able to transform Rocky’s aggression in just one week by learning to let go of preconceived notions and look at things as they truly are. This philosophy has profoundly changed how I perceive the underlying nature of any challenge I encounter.

Personal Philosophy & Growth

Over the past five years, my father introduced me to psychology and Buddhist wisdom as a way to understand our family dynamics and myself better. Gradually, I got more interested in learning more about Buddhism. In early 2025, I began a daily meditation practice and watched many videos of Nick Keomahavong and Buddhism In English to better understand human behavior and self-improvement. Later that year, I enrolled in the Buddhist 101 course at the Open Buddhist University to further deepen my knowledge. Much like my journey with Rocky, this wisdom has taught me to see reality for what it truly is and to make more intentional choices.

Language Learning

In my pastime, I study East-Asian languages. This began four years ago with Korean, sparked by an interest in Korean music. While my early learning was passive, I have since shifted to Japanese, moving toward deliberate practice to truly master the language.
Additionally, I am working to improve my Cantonese to connect with my Hong Kong roots. I particularly enjoy identifying the linguistic similarities and differences between Korean, Japanese, and Cantonese as I study.

Community & Connection

Every now and then, I enjoy organizing gaming events for me and my friends that bring us together. Whether online or in person, I find it rewarding to facilitate a well-executed event where everything runs smoothly. This involves the technical process of managing hardware, servers, and configurations, from hosting Minecraft events online to setting up VR horror nights and local co-op games in person.
